The short version. Lexware is local-first software. Matter content stays on your computer by default, and we do not receive or store it. Off-device AI and Lexware Companion access are explicit, off-by-default exceptions described below. The personal information we hold is the small amount needed to run the beta program: who you are, how to reach you, and what you tell us.
1. Information we collect about you
As a beta tester, we collect:
- Contact and professional details — your name, email address, chambers or firm, and role, provided when you join the program.
- Feedback and support correspondence — bug reports, feature requests, emails, and messages you send us, including any screenshots or files you choose to attach.
- Distribution and update records — Mac and Windows beta builds are downloaded through password-protected links on lexware.ai and served from Lexware's public GitHub releases. The desktop app also checks those releases for updates. Lexware Companion is distributed by Apple through the App Store. Cloudflare, GitHub or Apple may process standard technical details associated with a download or update, such as app version, operating system and IP address, under their own privacy terms.
- Diagnostic bundles — the app can assemble a diagnostic bundle (application logs, version, and system information) to help us investigate a problem. Bundles are created only when you choose to create one, are stored locally for you to review, and reach us only if you send them. They are designed to exclude document content, but see section 3.
We collect this information directly from you. We do not collect it from third parties, and we do not use cookies or tracking technologies in the application.
2. Information the software processes — but we never receive
By default, this material is processed on your computer. The application does not send matter content, metadata, indexes or derived data to us.
Some features, when you invoke them, send or provide content to a destination you choose. Off-device AI sends material to the provider you select. Lexware Companion sends matter material directly between the computer and a paired iPad over the local network while that setting is on. Actions such as Send to LiquidText hand the selected material to the external app. We do not receive or relay those transfers. The destination's own terms and privacy arrangements apply.
We do not receive matter information through these features. You remain responsible for deciding whether an external app or AI provider is appropriate for the material.
3. A note on privileged material in feedback
Please do not include client documents, privileged material, or confidential matter information in bug reports, screenshots, or correspondence with us. Use dummy or anonymised material to reproduce issues. If we receive material that appears privileged or confidential, we will delete it and let you know.
4. How we use your information
We use the information in section 1 only to:
- administer the beta program (distributing builds, licence keys, and updates);
- respond to your feedback and provide support;
- improve Lexware; and
- contact you about the beta and, with your consent, about the commercial release.
We do not sell personal information, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except service providers we use to run the program (currently email and file-distribution services, which may store data outside Australia, including in the United States).
5. Security and retention
We take reasonable steps to secure the information we hold, including encryption in transit and access limited to the people running the program. We keep beta program information only as long as needed for the purposes above.
6. Access, correction, and complaints
You can ask us at any time to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to leave the beta program, by emailing support@lexware.ai. We will respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
7. Our approach to the Privacy Act
Lexware Pty Ltd currently falls within the Privacy Act's small business exemption. We nonetheless handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles as a matter of practice, and this policy is written on that basis.
8. Changes
We may update this policy during the beta and will notify testers by email of any material change.
