How to use Lexware.

These guides cover the full workspace included in the Pro trial. Compare Free, Starter and Pro for ongoing access; Assist and iPad Companion require Pro.

Short, practical guides, written for barristers rather than engineers. If you're new, read them in order; otherwise, jump straight to whatever you're doing today.

Matter content stays on this computer by default. Off-device AI requires consent for the matter; paired iPad access has its own app-wide switch. Exporting, using another app or choosing a synced backup folder can also take copies elsewhere. Licence activation and updates make separate network requests without sending your matter content. See how Lexware handles your information.

New to Lexware? Three short reads and you're working.

  • Getting started — get Lexware onto your machine and open it for the first time.
  • A quick tour — five minutes to get your bearings: what every part of the workspace is for.
  • Importing a brief — bring a brief in so you can start working with it.

Working the matter

  • Documents — the app's Brief section: browse volumes on the shelf or in a tree, then read, search and mark up the brief.
  • Working with the chronology — build a chronology you can rely on, with you deciding what goes in.
  • Pleadings — line up the pleadings into a paragraph-by-paragraph Pleadings Matrix.
  • Transcripts — work the daily transcript by day, witness and line.
  • Correspondence — email as evidence: read it safely, file its attachments, and triage arrivals in the Intray.
  • Bundles — assemble the documents for a hearing into one ordered PDF.
  • Authorities — build a working library of cases, legislation and secondary material, with a Board for arranging authorities against the grounds of argument.

Notes and drafting

  • Scratchpad — clip the passages that matter, each linked back to where you found it.
  • Notes — your written thinking, with citations that stay live back to the evidence.
  • AI Assist — use Ask for a focused task, then follow the run and result in Activity; off-device work is consent-gated per matter.
  • Dashboard — build and refresh a structured briefing from the matter records and documents you choose.

Help

  • Troubleshooting — Word previews, folder changes, recovery and problem reporting.
  • Backups — make, verify and restore a manual backup, and understand which files it includes.
  • iPad Companion setup — install the companion and pair it with the desktop app over your local network.
