Bundles
These guides cover the full workspace included in the Pro trial. Compare Free, Starter and Pro for ongoing access; Assist and iPad Companion require Pro.
A hearing bundle gathers documents for a court event — a directions hearing, an interlocutory application, the trial, an appeal — and exports them as one ordered PDF. Curate the document list in Bundles, then export again when you want a fresh copy. This is separate from bringing in a delivered PDF and its attached files.
Creating a bundle
In Bundles, click New bundle. Pick a type if one fits — Directions hearing, Case management review, Interlocutory application, Mediation, Trial, Appeal — which also fills in a starting name, then adjust the name and add a date if you want one. (The type is chosen at creation; renaming and re-dating are always available afterwards.)
Creating a bundle also creates a chronology list with the same name, so the events that matter to that hearing can be curated alongside its documents — the bundle card's Chronology list button jumps straight to the chronology filtered to it. Renaming the bundle renames the list with it; deleting the bundle leaves both the list and the documents untouched.
Adding documents
Fill the bundle from wherever you happen to be:
- On the bundle card — Add documents… opens a picker you can search by title, code or path, with checkboxes for adding several at once.
- From the Brief — eligible documents have an Add to bundle action, and a multi-selection in the reading workspace can be added in one go.
- From Authorities — right-click an authority with an attached judgment and pick the bundle, so the case you'll hand up travels with the documents it belongs beside.
Documents sit in the bundle numbered in the order you added them, each showing its page count, and clicking one opens it in the reader. There's no drag-to-reorder yet — changing the order means removing and re-adding — and adding something twice is harmless: Lexware just tells you it's already there. Removing a document from a bundle never removes it from the matter.
Only PDFs and Word documents that have or can produce a PDF rendering can join. A legacy .doc needs an available converter or a usable existing rendering. Spreadsheets, slide decks, emails, images and plain-text documents are excluded. The picker shows the eligible documents.
Exporting the bundle
Click Export to LiquidText to merge the available documents in bundle order into one PDF and open it in LiquidText. On a Mac this action requires LiquidText to be installed. On Windows, Lexware tries LiquidText first and falls back to your default PDF app if it cannot open there. If PDF Expert is installed on your Mac, Export to PDF Expert offers the same merge and handoff.
The result dialog shows how many documents and pages were merged, each document's page range, anything skipped, and the saved file's path inside the matter's folder. Check this report before using the bundle: a missing or unreadable document can be omitted. If the application fails to open, the compiled file remains on disk. Re-exporting under the same bundle name replaces that exported PDF; a renamed bundle gets a new filename. Each completed export is recorded in the matter's audit log.
The bundle is the documents as filed. Your highlights and margin comments are not written into the merged PDF — a bundle is for handing up. To take a single document with your markings into LiquidText or PDF Expert, use the document's own send action in the reader.
Lexware merges the PDF locally and hands it to an application on your computer. Any later sharing or cloud syncing by that application or the folder you save a copy into follows your own settings.
